Here’s a list of the excellent resources that make this site tick – great stuff that deserves a mention, especially since most of them are open source projects that are created out of love for the medium and offered for free by their creators. A big “thank you”, as well as a list of resources for other users.
WordPress
The “state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform” that powers hundreds of thousands of blogs around the web. A wonderful project in itself, but also backed by a large community that provides it with even more functionality by the plugins and themes they develop. Easy to use and maintain, but if you want a blog without bothering with hosting and stuff, there are free, ready-to-rock blogs at WordPress.com.
Sideblog
The plugin that runs the little blog that keeps those little shout-outs and linkages from cluttering the “big blog” – hassle-free, thanks to Kates Gasis.
Ultimate Tag Warrior
Creator Christine Davis describes UTW as a “multi-headed hydra of a plugin”, and even though I’m still setting it up (and tagging all my old posts), I can say that there is truth to that description. A very ambitious project that can add a whole new dimension to any WordPress blog.
Akismet
Comment spam is a nasty problem, but Akismet is a strong effort that succeeds admirably in fighting back. Uses a centralized service to taste all comments and spit out the sour bits before they reach the blog.
Google Sitemaps
Plugin that generates sitemaps to make it easier for spiders to find the blog’s content. By Arne Brachold.
WordPress Widgets
A WordPress plugin that makes blog customizing even easier, by making it possible to add and arrange sidebar items without touching a single line of code. I could do it manually, but I love to drag & drop!
Tag Cloud Widget
Chris Jonsons widget lets you set up UTW tag clouds by simply dropping them into a widgetized sidebar.
Drop Down Archives
A little Widget with a pretty self-explanatory name
Qwilm!
Even though my design doesn’t look much like it anymore, it started out with Qwilm! 0.3 and even though I have poked at most of the code it still owes a lot to oriol‘s release – mostly because I lack the knowledge/patience ratio to build a theme from scratch. And it’s a good looking, useful theme in itself.
Non WordPress stuff
moo.fx
A lightweight (3kb) javascript library for adding height, width and opacity effects (like my collapsible sidebar boxes). Excellent for anyone who wants to add a bit of flash but doesn’t need everything that comes with script.aculo.us.
Dreamhost
Moved to this host recently. So far it seems like much bang for the buck.
Coffea
Grows beans that – after being roasted, ground and soaked in hot water – produce the elixir of life.
