I really needed that one. (Nothing seriously wrong – just sitting here with the clock going towards 2am, with a bit of the weird kind of backlash blues you sometimes get hit by as you realize that things aren’t too bad)
This morning I found a large load of delivery failure notifications and no-spam verification requests in the inbox for my contact address on this site, and it seems it has been used as the “from” address by someone (or more likely something) when sending a crapload of spam.
So, with a hundred or so delivery failures in my inbox, there must be thousands of mails that actually reached their marks, and to anyone who looked up this domain to investigate who the bastard who sent that crap is, I’m sorry that I can’t help.
And to anyone actually looking for the merchandise offered by these fine outlets, well… I’m sorry for you too…
I while ago, I ordered a camera. Was a good deal, appears to be a small/home business selling gadgets online. Found a seller with the same name (and referring to the same website) on eBay, and found his feedback to be over 97% positive over three year, with the occasional complaint about slow deliveries, something I can accept if I save some money.
So, I ordered and delivery was slow. It took ten business days (Monday to Friday the week after) for the order to ship, even though the site said the item was in stock. As do all items on the site. Still, I could accept that, keeping the stock low is probably one reason the prices are low.
It’s been a few days since the package was dispatched, which is normal since DHL considers this a remote area, but when I checked the tracking I noticed it was going in the wrong direction I contacted DHL, and they confirmed that the tracking number was for a shipment going to a completely different destination (Poland, not Sweden).
I’m waiting for the seller to reply to my mail and correct what was probably a simple mix-up of numbers, and that’s why I’m not mentioning any names. But should anything indicate it was a deliberate attempt to cover up the fact that he still was waiting for the product I’ll have this post ready. Everyone has a threshold, and I think I’ve been pretty patient so far.
I don’t know when this happened, but you gotta love how Google tries to make sure that everyone feels welcome. Even the lisping rabbit hunters (click to biggify):
And maybe it’s time to make sure to learn Intewwingua, Kwingon or Hackew? Sure would make it easier to find the way back to your own language if you encounter a browser with Google set to any of them…
It’s not really a bug, but it’s bugging me. A bit. Not a large matter, but still annoying. The common order of the arithmetic operations, that is. Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. They are probably ordered by how often you need to perform them, but my annoyance is that that particular order isn’t the same when you need electronic assistance for your calculations. At least not for me, since I’m able to to most everyday addition and subtraction in my head. What I may need help with is things like how many Kronor the amount of €237 equals at an exchange rate of 9.389. It’s not a big problem when using a real calculator, but the device I most often use when I’m not at a computer is my phone. In its calculator function, the * is used for choosing the operator, and it means I have to press at least two times to get to the functions I need. A total waste of time. I’ve must have lost precious minutes of my life doing that. Someone shoult fix it.
And I guess the issue of wasted time applies to this post as well. I think I’m writing mostly to occupy myself with something. I’ve got a bit of insomnia, and a case of butterflies in my stomach. The art school thing begins tomorrow, so I guess I’m allowed a bit of nervousness. And it’s the good kind, since I’m certain it’s going to be great.
Occasionally, there’s a commercial spot so good that you don’t mind having your show interrupted even if you don’t need to go to the bathroom or refill your coffee. I think Saab’s latest is one of those. Great “spot the Scandinavian design icons” concept, and wonderful music in the form of Nina Kinert’s “Through Your Eyes”.
Though I have to say the Swedish captions were a bit better, along the lines of “Form is nothing without function” (a bit simpler than the international version)Â and “Introducing a new design movement”.
Damn, there are no excuses for leaving this blog so sadly un-updated. I mean, I think of things to write about just about every day, but still I don’t update.
Maybe I should start with a small update on things in general. Actually there’s only one thing that I feel is worth mentioning, and that is that I got around to apply to an art school, and got accepted. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for years now, but it’s not until now I’ve felt that I could make good use of such an opportunity. It’s only a one year course to begin with, but it feels like the start of what I really want to do.
Maybe it will make my life interesting enough to take this blog in a more personal direction as well. But since I’ll get 24/7 access to the school and the resources there I think it will seriously reduce my online time. Let’s see about that.
Congratulations to “mobile home insurance” for being the 1000th spammer caught by Akismet since I installed it. The prize is a trip up shit creek, and I might be there ready to apply the paddle.
And big thanks to the Automattic people, for providing the product that didn’t let a single one of those spam by. Excellent work, and big x-mas hugs for all of you. :)
I looked at the TV schedule and saw that Jackie Brown was on. I havn’t seen that one in a couple of years, so I made a couple of sandwiches and sat down to watch. But there was no movie for me, since the TV site I use hadn’t updated their listing to show that this night’s programming had been rescheduled because of the Discovery launch.
It has become quite a big deal in the media here, since Christer Fuglesang is about to become the first Swede in space. Personally I don’t care, I don’t event know anyone who is the least bit excited about it, but with all the news about it you’d think he’s not only taking a trip to the ISS but travelling solo to the Moon on a rocket made of Dalahästar and surströmming. I mean, space isn’t big news these days, people walked on the moon almost 40 years ago, and the guy isn’t even going halfway.
So personally I hope the shuttle stays in one piece. If something would go wrong and Fuglesang ends up scattered across the stratosphere the press would go crazy for a long time, but if everything goes well he’ll be yesterday’s news in no time.
